The PayPal fees vary depending on the Payment method, recipient, location and other factors.
While buyers usually pay free of charge, sellers have to calculate different fees depending on the transaction.

1. Payments for goods and services
These fees are incurred when something is sold:
- Domestic payments (Germany): 2.49 % of the amount + € 0.35 per transaction
- EU payments: Same fees as domestic payments (2.49 % + € 0.35)
- International payments: 3.49 % + € 0.35, an additional 3 % exchange rate surchargeif a currency conversion is necessary
2. Payments via QR code
For sellers who use PayPal-QR codes:
- Up to € 10: 1 % of the amount + 0.05 €
- Over € 10: 0.5 % of the amount + € 0.10 €
3. Micro payments (for small amounts, e.g. Digital content)
- 4.99 % of the amount + € 0.09
4. Donation payments
- Normal donations: 2.49 % + 0.35 €
- For non -profit organizations: Only 1.5 % + 0.35 € (With QR code payments only 0.9 %)))
5. Payments to friends & family
- Within Germany: Free (when using bank account or PayPal credit)
- Abroad: 5 % of the amount (at least € 0.99, max. € 3.99), Additional exchange rate fees, if necessary if currency conversion
6. Alternative payment methods (e.g. Apple Pay, Giropay, credit cards without PayPal account)
- Up to 2.99 % of the amount + fixed fee
7. Additional fees for sellers
- Conflict fees: Up to 14 €if a buyer submits a buyer protection application
- Exchange rate surcharge: Approximately 3 %if a currency conversion is necessary

Who pays the PayPal fees: buyer or seller?

How do the PayPal fees come together?
The fees for sellers consist of two components:
- Percentage on the transaction amount (e.g. 2.49 % for payments in Germany)
- Fixed fee per transaction (e.g. € 0.35)

Can the seller flip the fees to the buyer?

How is buyer protection financed?
Every time a seller receives a payment via PayPal, PayPal takes a fee – usually 2.49 % of the amount plus € 0.35 per transaction. These fees not only cover payment processing, but also the buyer protection.
