Renowned actor Adan Canto, celebrated for his performances in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Agent Game,” and the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” has passed away at the age of 42. His publicist, Jennifer Allen, revealed that Canto succumbed to appendiceal cancer, a battle he chose to keep private. Born in Ciudad Acuña, Mexico, and raised in Texas, Canto initiated his career at 16 as a singer-songwriter in Mexico City before transitioning to acting.
Canto’s career featured standout roles such as Vice President-elect Aaron Shore on “Designated Survivor,” Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on “Narcos,” and the mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Additionally, he starred in Halle Berry’s directorial debut, “Bruised,” and “Agent Game.” Beyond acting, Canto directed two short films, showcasing his diverse talents.
At the time of his passing, Canto was portraying Armand Morales on Fox’s “The Cleaning Lady.” Despite his illness preventing his participation in the ongoing production, he had hoped to return later in the season. Known for his infectious smile and hearty laugh, Canto’s friends admired his humility, a trait contrasting his imposing presence.
Kiefer Sutherland, his co-star on “Designated Survivor,” paid tribute on Instagram, expressing sorrow for the loss of Canto’s wonderful spirit and highlighting his impressive dedication to excellence. Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two children, Roman Alder and Eve Josephine. His wife bid farewell on Instagram, writing, “Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon.”
